Covid-19 cases rise in Maharashtra and Delhi; Centre urges states to step up vigilance

Covid-19 cases have seen an uptick in parts of India, including Maharashtra and Delhi, leading the Union Health Ministry to urge states to enhance vigilance while advising the public to maintain sensible precautions without creating panic, according to a report.

In Delhi, a health department bulletin cited in the report said the city logged 23 new Covid-19 cases on Wednesday, taking the active caseload to 84. Importantly, no Covid-related deaths were reported, and hospitalisation remained nil, suggesting that most infections were mild and manageable at home.

The Centre’s messaging, as described in the report, focused on maintaining Covid-appropriate behaviour, especially in urban areas and during gatherings. This typically includes basic measures like staying home when unwell, practising hand hygiene, and being mindful in crowded indoor settings—particularly for people who are elderly or have underlying health risks.
